Why is alcoholism so widely promoted in the American culture? Would it be fair to say that heavy drinking is encouraged by Hollywood or is it just the pop culture being reflected in the movies?

Is smoking advertised by Hollywood? Can Hollywood be blamed for tobacco-related deaths? Is Hollywood basically publicizing smoking and alcoholism? Can the illustration of cigarette smoking, drug abuse and alcohol consumption be the main reason why young audiences are leaning towards these habits?
