US President Donald Trump's approval rating has dropped to a new low following a poor performance by the White House on several key issues.

Only 33 percent of American voters approve of how Trump is performing as president, while 61 percent said they disapproved, a new Quinnipiac University poll has found.

The president’s approval rating is down 7 percentage points from the 40 percent rating he received in a similar poll in the last week of June.

According to the Quinnipiac University survey, Trump was accused of mishandling key issues like foreign policy, economy, immigration, healthcare and terrorism.

The majority of voters said Trump was not honest, did not have good leadership skills, was not intelligent and did not care about them.

More than 50 percent of those surveyed also said the US president had attempted to derail or obstruct the investigation into the Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Trump’s approval rating has been sliding downward over the past couple of weeks before it reached 39 percent on Monday, according to Fran Coombs, the managing editor of Rasmussen Reports, which is the president’s favorite because it has consistently given him better marks than other polls.

Coombs said earlier this week Trump’s new low number in a Rasmussen poll is likely a combination of the "unsettled nature" of Trump's staff and Congress’s failure to pass an Obamacare repeal bill.

According to most other pollsters, Trump's approval rating fell below 40 percent long ago.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll, released in mid-July, showed Trump’s six-month approval rating was the lowest of any president in 70 years.

The poll surveyed people's opinion about Trump’s competence on the world stage, his effectiveness, the GOP healthcare plan as well as his handling of Russia’s alleged role in the 2016 election.

Only 36 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance, down 6 points from his 100-day mark, which itself was a low.
