Archaeologists have unearthed a colossal collection of luxurious Roman houses in France.
The well-preserved neighborhood with an area of 75000 square feet was found on the outskirts of the southeastern commune of Vienne. Magnificent tiles, furniture and jewelries, gardens as well as the neighborhood’s water supply system have all survived.

Experts believe the area was occupied for around 300 years before it was abandoned due to a series of fires in the second and third centuries AD.

The unearthing project which started in September 2016, is said to be the biggest excavation of a Roman site in half a century.

The public will have a chance of first-hand view of the items during exhibitions planned for 2019 and 2020 at the museum of Saint-Romain-en-Gal.
