Iran’s Sanaye Giti Pasand Futsal Club has commendably ended its campaign at the 2017 AFC Futsal Club Championship in Vietnam, and finished in the second place overall in the annual continental tournament.

On Sunday, the Iranian team slumped to a 2-3 defeat against Thai futsal club Chonburi Bluewave at the multi-purpose Phu Tho Indoor Sport Stadium in Vietnam’s largest city of Ho Chi Minh City.

The match was a repeat of the 2013 AFC Futsal Club Championship final in Nagoya, Japan, on September 1, when the Thai side won the trophy after emerging victorious 5-2 in the penalty shootouts.

Suphawut Thueanklang squeezed in the first goal for Chonburi Bluewave from close range in the 13th minute, before he doubled the lead from the second penalty spot.

The Iranian futsal players bounced back in the second period, and Ahmad Esmaeilpour put the ball into back of the net in the 21st minute.

Shortly afterwards, Ali Asghar Hasanzadeh’s fizzling right-foot shot found the back of the net, and the 29-year-old Iranian striker made it 2-2.

Giti Pasand’s celebration, however, did not last long as Suphawut unleashed a right-footed cracker for his hat trick in the 22nd minute.

Hasanzadeh was named the most spectacular player of the 2017 AFC Futsal Club Championship.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s Thái Sơn Nam team trounced Al Rayyan from Qatar 6-1 in the third-place play-off.

The 2017 AFC Futsal Club Championship started in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on July 20 and finished on July 30.
