Iran collects four more medals in 2017 Summer Deaflympics

Iranian sportsmen and women have received four more medals, including one silver, at the ongoing 23rd edition of Summer Deaflympics in Turkey, and lifted their country’s medal count in the event to  nine.

On Saturday, Iranian female sports shooter Fatemah Esfandiariyalmeh scored 188.6 points at 10m air pistol event at Samsun Shooting Venue in Turkey’s northern and major Black Sea port city of Samsun, and claimed the second spot.

South Korea’s Chun Ji Won gained 191.1 points to be named the champion.

Valeria Valeryevna Kladovikova, a representative from Russia, stood third with 169.4 points.

Separately, Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers featured praiseworthy performances at the international tournament, and scooped two medals.

Rasoul Daryani overcame Bulgarian wrestler Angel Iliev Tsenov 8-4 in the bronze medal bout of the 85-kilogram weight class.

Hashem Biabani also bested Evgeny Zheltukhin from Russia in the 130-kilogram weight section and won the bronze.

Moreover, the Iran men’s national judo team, consisted of Masood Sefidi, Ali Salahshour Golkhani, Hossein Allahkarimi, Mehrdad Seidi, defeated the Turkish squad 3-2 in the third-place contest and earned the bronze.

The 2017 Summer Deaflympics, officially known as the 23rd edition of Summer Deaflympics, opened in Samsun, Turkey, on July 18 and will finish on July 30, 2017. A total of 3,148 athletes from 97 countries are competing in 21 sports at the international multi-sport event.

Dozens of Iranian athletes are in action across 13 sports. They are vying for top honors in athletics, beach volleyball, bowling, football, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.
