Germany has requested UNESCO to add the recently discovered Ice age caves to the World Heritage List.

The 6 caves are located in the western state of Baden. They hold the most abundant, richest and oldest record of early art works, along with musical instruments and more than 40 small figurines carved from mammoth ivory.

Other finds in the caves include a water bird figure, that is about 40,000 years old and a broken figure of a half man half lion carved from mammoth ivory. The UNESCO committee will consider 25 other cultural sites from around the world, 7 natural sites, and one considered mixed.
