The US administration is highly likely to be behind the tension between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, because a recent ultimatum was given to the Qataris a few weeks after US President Donald Trump's visit to Riyadh, says an academic.

"The Qataris should not be lulled into believing that the US is taking an even-handed approach in this situation," Colin Cavell told Press TV on Sunday. The ultimatum’s author is not solely the House of Saud, he added.

"Definitely, the House of Saud is working hand in glove in close coordination with the Trump administration on the threats to Qatar," said the former lecturer at the University of Bahrain.
