Iran’s national under-21 volleyball team has maintained its winning streak at the preliminary round of the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship in the Czech Republic, notching up a hard-fought win over Argentina.

On Sunday, the Iranian squad downed the South American team 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25 and 15-12) at the end of a thrilling Pool C match played at the Budvar Arena in the southern Czech city of České Budějovice.

Young Iranian volleyball players featured solid reception and attacks throughout the first set, and managed to close it at 25-21.

Argentines failed to defend their Iranian counterparts’ attacks in the second set, and the period came to an end at 25-20 in Iran’s favor.

The tie-break, however, saw Iran clinching the victory and staying on top of Pool D.

“This match was beautiful. Argentina was a very good team. My players could not do all the things that we had planned, but now I am very happy with the result. We earned the first place in our pool and we are looking forward to the next stage,” Iran’s head coach Behrouz Ataei said after the match.

Iran’s captain Rasoul Aghchehli said, “We came here to win every match and so we did. It was a good game and a hard one at the same time. We followed the instructions from our coach and we made it.”

“It was an interesting match. Both teams played well except for us in the first set. Then we played better and in the final stage of the match we made some mistakes and we had to pay a high price for that,” Argentina’s coach Alejandro Grossi commented.
