Iranian athletes get nine medals in XXVI Kosanov Memorial

Iranian sportsmen have exhibited impressive displays of athletics skills at the 27th edition of Gusman Kosanov Memorial in Kazakhstan, and received nine medals, a third of them gold, at the international sports event.

On Saturday, Milad Sayyar competed in the men's 110-meter hurdles category. He clocked 14.03 seconds at the Central Stadium in the Kazakh city of Almaty, and snatched the gold medal.

Iranian high jumper Kayvan Ghanbarzadeh earned another gold medal for the Islamic Republic by registering 2.18 meters in the final contest.

In the men’s 1,500-meter finals, Moslem Niadoust set the time of 3:51.33 minutes and pocketed the gold. Hossein Keyhani, another representative from Iran, finished in the second place with 3:52.06 minutes and clinched the silver medal.

Furthermore, Reza Ghasemi and Ali Khadivar clocked 10.58 and 10.59 seconds respectively in the men’s 100-meter section, and received the silver and bronze medals.

Ali Samari took part in the men's shot put competitions, and threw the shot 19.23 meters to earn the bronze medal.

Reza Malekpour also landed in the third spot in the 400 meters hurdles, and took away the bronze.

Iran's triple jumper Vahid Seddiq settled for the bronze by registering 15.93 meters in the final contest.

The 27th edition of Gusman Kosanov Memorial started in Almaty., Kazakhstan, on June 24 and will finish the next day.

The tournament has brought together tens of athletes from 13 countries, namely Afghanistan, Bahrain, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Gusman Kosanov was a Soviet athlete, who competed mainly in the 100 meters. He competed for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in the 4 x 100 meter relay competitions, and won the silver medal with his teammates Leonid Bartenev, Yuriy Konovalov and Edvin Ozolin.
