Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel Di Maria was handed a prison sentence and a fine after admitting to two counts of tax fraud during his time with Real Madrid.

The Argentinean winger admitted to two counts of tax fraud totaling 1.47 million US dollars during his 4-year spell with Real Madrid. Di Maria has been given a suspended one-year jail sentence and fined 2.23 million US dollars for tax fraud in Spain.

He won’t spend any time behind bars because sentences of under two years in Spain are suspended provided that the convicted person has no criminal record.

The news follows other high-profile cases in Spain, like Cristiano Ronaldo plus Jose Mourinho who has also been caught up in an alleged tax fraud case dating back to his time in Madrid. Barcelona forward Lionel Messi had a tax-related trial last year.
