Canoe finishes around the world voyage

A traditional canoe has completed a three-year around the world voyage, the first-ever journey made by such a vessel.
The canoe, built in the 1970s, returned to Hawaii and thousands of people welcomed it.

The boat has no modern navigation instrumentation and so the crew members relied only on their understanding of Nature's cues such as ocean swells, stars, wind, birds and also their own gut.

They sailed across about 74-thousand kilometers to 19 countries, spreading the “Caring for the Earth” message. The trip also helped train a new generation of young navigators. The canoe will soon embark on an eight-month trip sailing throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
