The Iranian men’s national beach volleyball A team has claimed the top position at the ongoing fifth edition of Confédération Sportive Internationale Travailliste et Amateur (CSIT) World Sports Games in Latvia, after trouncing the Russian squad in the title match.

Beach volleyball enthusiasts brimmed with joy as the Iranian team of Yaqoub Beigi, Kamal Qorayshi, Mohammad Tamajazah and Abdollah Azar overcame their Russian counterparts at the end of a game staged in the Latvian capital city of Riga.

The Iranian players began the match in a better fashion, and slammed fine spikes and blocked the ball well to take the first set 21-19.

 The Russians then managed to gain the lead, and took up the available opportunities to surge ahead. They grabbed the second set by 23 points to 21.

The Persians retook the supremacy in the third set, and kept on earning points. They eventually pulled out a 15-8 win.

Meanwhile, the French beach volleyball squad defeated Austria 2-0 in the third-place play-off and got the bronze medal.

The fifth edition of the CSIT World Sports Games kicked off in Riga, Latvia, on June 13 and will run through June 18, 2017.
