Trump agrees with Hannity ‘deep state' working against government

Fox News host Sean Hannity

US President Donald Trump has agreed with Fox News host Sean Hannity that the so-called “deep state” is attempting to undermine his government.

On Friday, Trump shared a tweet from Hannity promoting the commentator's monologue focusing on punishing "deep state" actors who are working against the administration.

The term deep state, or derin devlet in Turkish, originated in 1950s Turkey, refers to a secretive network of influential members of government agencies or the military that operates outside the democratic system.  The group is believed to be involved in the secret manipulation or control of government policy.

Trump re-tweeted Hannity's message promoting his show.

“This week alone, we've seen unprecedented and potentially criminal leaks from the deep state to the liberal Washington Post,” the conservative commentator said in his opening monologue.

Hannity said “deep state” players were “creating collateral damage” for the country and working against the Republican president’s agenda.

“Here's the problem, whoever is leaking this information to the media, they need to be arrested, they need to be prosecuted. Everyone of them needs to be put in jail,” he said.

“These people have now become a clear and present danger to this country and to you,” he added.

Trump has said that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice, confirming reports that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is overseeing a probe into the alleged Russian interference in the American presidential election.

Trump has posted a number of tweets calling the Russia probe a “witch hunt” being carried out by “very bad people.”

"I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch hunt," Trump tweeted.

Trump and his several senior advisers believe that leftovers from the Obama administration are attempting to discredit the new president’s authority and leak damaging information to the media.
