South Korea sack head coach Stielike

South Korea's head coach Ulrich Stielike.

South Korea have sacked their long-serving head coach Uli Stielike after a series of poor results in the 2018 World Cup qualifying.

South Korea's football association made the announcement on Thursday, just 2 days after the team’s 3-2 loss to Qatar.

It was South Korea's third defeat in the last 5 qualification games and left hopes of progressing to a ninth successive World Cup uncertain.

The 62-year-old German, Stielike was the longest manager of the Korean national football team, holding the post for 2 years and 9 months.
