The Swiss Maestro Roger Federer finally returned to court at the Stuttgart Open, only to be stunned in his 1st round match against German veteran Tommy Haas on Wednesday.
39-year-old Haas, who is playing his last season before retirement, saved 9 of the 12 break points he faced, and converted 2 of his 3 chances to seal the 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory in an hour and 54 minutes.
This was just the 2nd defeat for Federer this year, who claimed the Australian Open for his 18th major in January. Haas will next play Mischa Zverev of Germany in Friday's quarter-finals.
