Trump 'worst, most dangerous president': Sanders
Former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has described Donald Trump as the "worst and most dangerous president” in American history.
"Today in the White House we have perhaps the worst and most dangerous president in the history of our country,” Sanders said during a speech in Chicago on Saturday.
The Vermont senator who was speaking at the "People's Summit" said what he finds “particularly disgraceful about Trump is not just his reactionary economic, environmental and social policies, or the fact that he lies all the time … is his incredible hypocrisy."
"This is a man who ran for president telling the people of this country that he was going to stand up for the working-class. .. and then, once he got elected, and without a second's hesitation, he brings more billionaires into his administration than any president in history."
"Mr. Trump, do not tell us that you are a friend of the working class when you propose to throw 23 million Americans off of health care," Sanders said.
Trump ticking everybody off
Sanders' remarks highlighted just a few of Trump’s shortcomings as the US president.
Pundits say during less than five months in office, Trump has not only exasperated most Americans, but also ticked off many of Washington’s allies.
Most Americans are angry at Trump over the US withdrawal from the landmark Paris climate accord.
His alleged links to the Russians and the abrupt firing of former FBI Director James Comey seem to be suspicious, as well.
Recent polls show Trump’s approval ratings are either stagnating or declining while serious doubts are being raised about Trump's honesty and integrity.
Many Americans are publicly calling Trump a liar, Sanders included.
In the international sphere, long-time allies like Germany, which is a leading powerhouse in Europe, have lost hope in the US under Trump.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is one of the world’s most knowledgeable politicians with decades of experience under her belt, has expressed disappointment over him and said recently that the US led by Trump was no longer a reliable ally for Europe.
She, like others, has distanced herself from Trump.
