Iran’s boxing referee Abbaszadeh awarded AIBA three-star status

Iranian boxing referee Majid Abbaszadeh has been bestowed the International Boxing Association (AIBA) three-star status, thanks to his well enforcement of the laws of the combat sport during several bouts at the 4th edition of Islamic Solidarity Games in Azerbaijan.

Abbasszadeh properly performed his official duties in the multinational and multi-sport event, and managed to fulfill requirements of the referee committee and receive the title.

While he featured inside the ring as the main referee for nine competitions, the young Iranian referee was present at ringside during 29 contests and assigned points to boxers.

Earlier, Babak Bordbar, Farzad Sadeghpour and Ali Ja’fari had managed to receive the credible title.

The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games started in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 12 under the motto “Solidarity is Our Strength.” The tournament wrapped up on May 22, 2017.

Athletes from 54 Muslim countries around the world represented their nations over 10 days of competition across 20 different sports, which include 23 disciplines (athletics and para-athletics, aquatics – diving, aquatics – swimming, aquatics – water polo, basketball 3×3, football, gymnastics – artistic, gymnastics – rhythmic, wushu, table tennis, handball, judo and blind judo, wrestling – Greco, wrestling – freestyle, shooting, tennis, volleyball, boxing, zurkhaneh, karate, taekwondo and weightlifting) in 16 world-class sporting venues.

Azerbaijan stood on the top of the medal count table with 162 medals (75 gold, 50 silvers and 37 bronzes).

Turkey claimed the second spot with 195 medals (71 gold, 67 silvers, 57 bronzes), while the Islamic Republic of Iran was on the third with a total of 98 medals (39 gold, 26 silvers and 33 bronzes).

Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Algeria, Morocco, Indonesia, Egypt and Kyrgyzstan earned the 4th to 10th places respectively.
