Iranian athletes awarded five medals in Asian Youth Athletics Championship

The second edition of Asian Youth Athletics Championship opened in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 20, and ran through May 23, 2017.

Young Iranian sportsmen and women have featured rather convincing performances at the second edition of Asian Youth Athletics Championship in Thailand, and claimed five medals, including one silver, at the continental sporting event.

Sixteen-year-old sprinter Bahareh Jahantigh earned a silver medal for the Islamic Republic by registering 4:51.26 minutes in the final contest of men’s 1,500-meter race at National Stadium in the Thai capital city of Bangkok.

Chunhui Li from China snatched the gold medal of the heat with 4:40.09 minutes. Thailand’s Kittikarn Suharitdumrong set the time of 4:52.75 minutes and pocketed the bronze.

Reihaneh Arani vied in the girl’s hammer throw competitions, and picked a bronze medal with a throw of 55.41 meters.

The gold and silver medals went to Chinese and Malaysian athletes Li Ji and Xiu Mei Wong with winning throws of 67.81 and 59.00 meters in their final attempts.

Moreover, Reza Kefayati racked up 5,904 points in the boy’s decathlon, and landed in the third position to be awarded the bronze medal.

Taiwanese contestant Tsu Yuan Liu earned 5,982 points to take the gold medal. Mohit, a representative from India, tallied 5,976 points and received the silver.

Maryam Mohebbi and Seyyed Amir Zamanpour also managed to get two bronze medals in the girl’s 400-meter and boy’s 3,000-meter race contests.

The tournament brought together dozen of male and female athletes from various Asian countries, including China, China Taipei, India, Iraq, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, North Korea, South Korea, Syria, Thailand and Vietnam.
