Britain's opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has accused the Conservative Party of fueling a “war between generations” by pitching young people against the old.

In a speech in Birmingham on Saturday, Corbyn urged Prime Minister Theresa May to cancel the “anti-pensioner package” offered in the Conservative manifesto, which has caused divisions even among her own party members.

“Where the Tories look to divide, Labour seeks to bring people together,” Corbyn said. “The Tories are now trying to pitch the young against the old.”

“Their manifesto is a typical nasty party attempt to set generations against each other,” he stated.

“For pensioners, they offer a triple-whammy of misery, ending the triple lock which protects pensioner incomes, means testing the winter fuel allowance and slapping a ‘dementia tax’ on those who need social care by making them pay for it with their homes,” he added.

“Some claim that cutting support for the elderly is necessary to give more help to the young. But young people are being offered no hope by the Tories either – loaded up with tuition fee debts and next to no chance of [owning] a home of their own,” said Corbyn, a veteran social and political activist,.

The Conservatives Party launched its manifesto, "Forward, Together: Our plan for a stronger Britain and a prosperous future" on Thursday.

Under Conservative plans, middle-class pensioners are set to lose benefits to fund social care.

The Conservative manifesto also introduced plans to begin means-testing winter fuel payments and to charge more people who currently receive free care.

The money saved from means-testing will be used to help close the social care funding gap, it stated.

Corbyn has repeatedly slammed May’s political policies, criticizing her claim that she will construct “a Britain that works for everyone.”
