World No.1 Andy Murray has suffered a shock exit in his 3rd round match of Madrid Open at the hands of 20-year-old Borna Chori.

The top-ranked Murray was outplayed by the Croatian 6-3, 6-3 in his 5th loss of the year. He has won only one tournament this season and hasn't made it past the semifinals in the 3 clay-court tournaments he has played so far.

Meanwhile, 59th-ranked Choric will try to lift a second trophy this season after winning his first career title in Morocco last month.

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic also made it to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open with a straight sets victory over Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.

The Serb was in control during his service games and broke Lopez once in each set to secure the 6-4, 7-5 victory under a closed roof on center court in the Spanish capital.

The two time champion saved the only break point he conceded to Lopez, who was playing in the tournament for a record 16th time. Djokovic will next face Kei Nishikori of Japan.

On the other hand, Nishikori himself beat David Ferrer of Spain in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the last 8 of the event. Ferrer was looking for his 700th match win but Nishikori was too powerful to let him do that.

In another match, David Goffin of Belgium defeated Canadian Milos Raonic 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarters.
