Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers pocket 4 medals in Senior Asian Championships

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers have exhibited satisfactory displays of physical might and prowess at the Asian Senior Wrestling Championships in India, and received four medals, including three precious gold ones.

On Wednesday and the opening day of the continental sporting event in the Indian capital city of New Delhi, Iranian wrestler Ramin Soltanmorad Taherisartang overcame his South Korean opponent Junehyoung Kim 3-1 in the final bout of the 80-kilogram weight category, and collected the gold medal.

Indian Singh Harpreet and Kyrgyzstan’s Samat Shirdakov shared the bronze medal. 

Seyyed Mostafa Seyyedghanbar Salehizadeh outmuscled Seungjun Kim from South Korea 14-4 by technical fall in the 98-kilogram weight division, and snatched the yellow metal.

The bronze medal in this division went to Yerulan Iskakov from Kazakhstan and Uzbek wrestler Rustam Assakalov.

Additionally, Behnam Aliakbar Mehdizadeh Aryatapeh defeated his Kazakh rival Damir Kuzembayev 3-1 in the final contest of the 130-kilogram weight class, and picked up the gold medal.

South Korean contender Minseok Kim defeated Arata Sonoda from Japan 4-2, and settled for the bronze.

Iranian Ali Reizollah Arsalan also downed Uzbek rival Elmurat Tasmuradov 11-1 by technical fall in the third-place encounter of the 66-kilogram weight class, and received the bronze medal.

South Korea’s Sanghun Oh prevailed over Almat Kebispayev from Kazakhstan in this category, and received the gold medal.

The Asian Senior Wrestling Championships kicked off in New Delhi, India, on May 10, and will run through May 14, 2017.

The tournament has brought together dozens of male and female freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers from various Asian countries, including China, Chinese Taipei, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, North Korea, South Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
