US President Donald Trump “welcomes” investigation into his business dealings in Russia, says White House press secretary Sean Spicer, asserting that he has no business in the country.

“He's fine with that,” Spicer said at a briefing in Washington in Tuesday. “He has no business in Russia. He has no connections to Russia so he welcomes that.”

He made the comments after remarks by South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, voicing interest in an investigation into the matter.

Former acting Attorney General Sally Yates (R) and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testify on May 8, 2017, before the US Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

The senator told CNN that he was willing to pursue the matter after a Monday testimony by former director of National Intelligence, James Clapper.

In a declassified report released in January, the intelligence community concluded that Russia helped with the New York billionaire’s campaign effort ahead of winning the White House, an allegation dismissed both by Moscow and Trump.

"We'll go where the facts take us,” Graham said. “I want to know about what Clapper said, and I want to know more about Trump's business dealings.

The White House, meanwhile, has had a “leading law firm” send the senator a certified letter, denying any business connections between Trump and Russia.

“That should be a really easy look,” Spicer said.

The FBI as well as the US Senate and House intelligence committees have been investigating Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and any possible ties between Trump’s associates and Moscow.
