Trump paves way for churches to dabble in politics
Now in a move viewed as a thank-you gift to his evangelical supporters, Trump has issued an executive order which will make it easier for churches to engage in politics.
Trump threw his weight behind the order which he said aims to promote “Free Speech and Religious Liberty.” He called the US a nation of tolerance and expressed his frustration with religious discrimination. Trump’s speaking in favor of religious liberty comes as Muslims were among the most targeted groups during his rhetorical campaign trail.
This order also accommodates Trump’s views on issues like abortion. Trump has a very hard view on it. During his campaign trail, he even said that women who have abortions should be punished by law. This order now gives him religious legitimacy on the matter.
