Anthony Modeste netted a brace to help Cologne beat Werder Bremen 4-3 in a thrilling showdown in the German Bundesliga.

Modeste managed to open the scoring in the 13th minute for the home side among many players in the box. In the 28th minute, Leonardo Bittencourt gave Cologne a 2-0 lead with a brilliant header. Six minutes after that, Werder Bremen pulled one back through Fin Bartels.

Theodor Gebre Selassie made hope of a comeback alive for Bremen with a 40th-minute equalizer. Simon Zoller's volley made it 3-2 for the hosts just before the end of an action-packed first half.

Shortly after the interval, Modeste fired his second goal of the night as Cologne took a 4-2 lead. Two minutes after the hour mark Serge Gnabry was on target for Bremen to seal the winner for Cologne at RheinEnergieStadion.
