Italian Serie A giants Juventus took a huge step towards the final of the UEFA Champions League after defeating French Side Monaco 2-0 in their semifinal first leg tie at the Stade Louis II.

Juventus, who managed to crush Barcelona 3-0 at home before keeping a 0-0 clean sheet at Camp Nou in the quarterfinals, took the lead after 29 minutes on Wednesday through Gonzalo Higuaín.

Dani Alves and the Argentinean international Gonzalo Higuaín linked up brilliantly, before the Brazilian right-back sent a wonderful ball to the edge of the penalty area. The former Napoli forward picked his spot before unleashing an unstoppable shot past the keeper to make it 1-0.

Juventus, then doubled their advantage just before the hour mark, with Higuain striking again. Alves was the creator once again, exchanging passes with Dybala before sending an excellent cross from the right, where Higuain was on hand to slot a neat finish past the keeper to seal the victory for the Italians.

With the triumph, the Old Lady now take full control of their semifinal tie ahead of next week's second leg in Turin.
