Iran’s national volleyball team has pummeled Pakistan to achieve its first victory at the preliminary round of the 2017 Asian Men's U23 Volleyball Championship.

The Iranian volleyball squad blanked South Asian 3-0 (2512, 29-27 and 28-26) in their opening Pool A match of the competitions at Hossein Rezazadeh Hall in the northwestern Iranian city of Ardabil.

“The first match of every team is very difficult. We played very well in the first set, prompting Pakistan to act nervously. The opposite side, however, changed its tactics in response to the situation, and created problems for us. We made more mistakes and therefore could not progress as we wanted in the game environment,” Iran head coach Juan Manuel Cichello said after the match.

He added, “I congratulate members of my team because we took the game 3-0 and it was an important match. We wish to continue our improving trend and deliver a better performance in the next match.”
