Iran’s Alipour sets world record in IFSC Climbing World Cup

Iranian rock climber Reza Alipour has delivered an awe-inspiring performance at the Climbing World Cup 2017, and  set a new world record to claim the top position of the chart at the prestigious sporting event.

On Sunday, the 23-year-old Iranian sportsman took part in the men’s speed record category competitions in theInternational Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) games in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing, and registered 5.48 seconds to finish as the champion and snatch the gold medal.

Alipour shattered Ukraine’s 24-year-old Danyil Boldyrev world record of 5.60 seconds, and eclipsed it by 0.12 seconds.

Russia’s Aleksandr Shikov clocked 5.61 seconds to land in the second spot and collect the silver medal. Vladislav Deulin, another contestant from Russia, got the bronze medal with 7.36 seconds.

The IFSC Climbing World Cup 2017 started in China on April 29 and wrapped up the following day. 

The tournament was held in women’s bouldering, women’s speed, men’s bouldering and men’s speed sections.

Speed climbing is a race in its purest form. Two contestants face each other while moving up the ice in this disciple, and the faster climber wins.

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed without the use of ropes or harnesses. Most climbers, however, use climbing shoes to help secure footholds, chalk to keep their hands dry, and mats to prevent injuries from falls.
