World Bonsai Convention returns to Japan after 28 years

Japan hosts the World Bonsai Convention after 28 years.

The World Bonsai Convention has returned to Japan for the first time in 28 years. Bonsai enthusiasts from across the world are attending the event to learn more about the ancient and majestic miniature trees.

A section of the exhibition contains bonsai on loan from the Imperial Household and especially brought for the occasion including several 500-year-old trees.

The World Bonsai Friendship Federation has been holding conventions since 1989. Since then the convention, held every four years, has been hosted in the United States, Korea, China and Europe.

Organizers say in total 13 Japanese and 8 International artists have shown their skills and artistic insight. Over 300 trees are on display, several of them already in training as bonsai for several centuries.
