Junior Iranian females crested in Asian taekwondo championship

Junior Iranian female taekwondo practitioners have featured praiseworthy displays of spinning kicks and fast kicking techniques  at the 9th edition of the Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships in Kazakhstan, and claimed the title for the first time at the conclusion of the continental tournament.

On Friday, the Iranian team finished first and stood on the top podium, having secured six gold medals through Mobina Nejad Katesari, Zahra Shojaei Rad, Zahra Alizadeh, Mobina Shakeri, Yalda Valinejad and Zahra Pouresmaeil in the juniors female minus 42-kilogram, minus 63-kilogram, minus 46-kilogram, minus 55-kilogram, minus 59-kilogram and over 68-kilogram weight categories respectively.

Mahla Mo’menzadeh took a silver medal in the juniors female minus 44-kilogram section after losing to Wilasinee Kamjanghan from Thailand.

The Iranian girls won the championship with 80 points. Iran’s Azam Dorosti was also named the best women's coach.

Thailand followed in the second place with two gold and two silver medals, having accumulated 43 points.

South Korea rounded off the podium, having pocketed one gold, two silver and three bronze medals. The East Asians earned 42 points.

Meanwhile, Iranian boys finished runner-up after South Korea, having collected three gold, two silver and one bronze medals. They racked up 61 points.

South Korean juniors lifted the trophy with 99 points, having snatched seven gold and two silver medals.

Kazakhstan finished third by 29 points, having won one silver and three bronze medals.

The 9th edition of the Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships kicked off in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, on April 19, and finished on April 21, 2017.

The tournament brought together dozens of male and female taekwondo practitioners from various Asian countries, including Afghanistan, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand.

Iranian referees Hamid Assadollahi and Zahra Eftekhari officiated at the sports event.
