EU legislators have called for greater powers to tackle the growing problem of online hate speech and fake news. They say tech giants including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube must move quickly to remove false and defamatory contents. The problem of xenophobia has become more acute in the EU since a large number of refugees began seeking asylum in the bloc.
