Iranians awarded 4 more medals in Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships

Iranian male and female taekwondo practitioners have continued to stage remarkable performances at the 9th edition of the Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships in Kazakhstan, and brought home four more medals, including three gold ones.

On Thursday, Mohammad Hossein Yazdani snatched the gold medal in the junior male minus 73-kilogram weight division after he managed to down his South Korean opponent Myeong-Gyun Byun 21-18 in the final encounter of the category held in the western Kazakh city of Atyrau.

Iranian taekwondo fighter Ahmadreza Mokhtari also collected the silver medal in the junior male minus 68-kilogram weight category, after he did not manage to overcome Kang Eun Seo from South Korea in the title contest and lost 7-17.

Iranian athlete Zahra Alizadeh overwhelmed Julanan Khantikulanon, a representative from Thailand, 11-2 in the last contest, and collected the gold medal.

Earlier in the day, Hamed Asghari Mahiabadi fetched a bronze medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran in the junior male minus 51-kilogram. He beat South Korea’s Min Je Kim 22-2 in the last fight.

The 9th edition of the Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships kicked off in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, on April 19, and will finish on April 21, 2017.

The tournament has brought together dozens of male and female taekwondo practitioners from various Asian countries, including Afghanistan, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand.

Iranian referees Hamid Assadollahi and Zahra Eftekhari are officiating at the continental sports event.
