Obese Indian baby has doctors perplexed

Chahat Kumar, eight-month-old, from India, weighs a similar amount to that of a four-year-old

An Indian baby’s rapid weight gain has bewildered doctors who are concerned about her health.

Eight-month-old Chahat Kumar started putting on weight at four months and has now reached the abnormal weight of 17.2 kilograms, but is piling on ever more. She’s currently as heavy as an average 4-year-old and takes quadruple-sized portions of food.

Chahat’s skin has become abnormally hard due to the weight, creating problems for doctors who need to take blood samples in order to diagnose her condition. Whatever her ailment is, it has also led to respiratory and sleeping challenges.

Chahat's parents have been told to take her to experts, but their financial restraints don’t allow that. Doctors also say that her family should watch the baby’s diet strictly despite her craves.
