Barcelona have kept their title hopes alive, with a narrow 3-2 victory over Real Sociedad, to move to within 3 points of leaders Real Madrid, who have a game in hand, ahead of next weekend’s El Clasico.

The Catalans had their star striker Lionel Messi to thank for the victory on Saturday. The Argentine opened the scoring after 17 minutes with a long range effort.

Messi added a 2nd some 20 minutes later, for his 45th goal of the season, before Samuel Umtiti turned into his own net to make it 2-1.

Paco Alcacer restored the 2-goal advantage for Luis Enrique’s men in the 44th minute, only to see Xabi Prieto pull one back before halftime to make it 3-2; a score-line which remained intact until the final whistle.
