Further headaches for US President Donald Trump and his team; the scandal surrounding alleged links between Trump’s administration and Russia has taken on new dimensions. The race for the Elysee Palace position of President de la Cinquieme Republique de France saw 11 hopefuls line up on stage for a marathon televised debate that at times was a skirmish, and others a bitter battle of words between the candidates. The main players in the elections took to the stage along with other candidates, with issues from Europe, the economy to French Frexit referendums, but the main point appeared to be a personal war of words between candidates who took the opportunity to spark the flames of emotions, and take personal digs at their opposing election colleagues.

Aung San Suu Kyi defends the military

Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi raised many eyebrows when she openly tried to play down the killing of Rohingya Muslims in the country by the military. Suu Kyi already faces criticisms for failing to act to stop what the world sees as a heavy-handed systematic crackdown by the military against the Rohingya.  But she suggested in an interview with the BBC that the world is exaggerating what is happening in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.  Suu Kyi in her interview came out in defense of the military and said it was trying to restore calm in Rakhine. The impression that she created through her claims is nothing less than covering up the crimes that Myanmar’s military is committing against the Muslims.
