Real Madrid returned to the top of LaLiga by beating Leganes, Alvaro Morata ensuring they did not miss the rested Cristiano Ronaldo.

Los Blancos started the match with full force and took a commanding 3-nil lead after 23 minutes through a goal from James Rodriguez and a brace from Alvaro Morata.

But, surprisingly, Leganes pulled two quick goals back as close-range strikes from Gabriel Pires and Luciano Neves reduced the deficit to 1 just after the half-hour mark.

However, Morata sealed the deal for Madrid 3 minutes after the restart with a wonderful header to complete his hat-trick and hand Los Blancos their 6th straight win in all competitions.

Barcelona also kept their title hopes alive following a 3-nil win over Sevilla at Camp nou.

25 minutes into the Wednesday encounter, the Catalans took the lead through Luis Suarez who unleashed a brilliant overhead kick from close range to make it 1-nil.

Three minutes later, Argentinean ace Lionel Messi, who returned from suspension, made it 2-nil for Barca by calmly tapping a low shot through the legs of the keeper and into the back of the net.

And, Messi completed the crucial victory for the hosts in the 33rd minute as he fired an unstoppable shot past the helpless keeper to make it 3-nil and hand his side the vital 3 points.
