A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet has crashed near Washington, and the pilot ejected safely.
The incident happened on Wednesday morning as the pilot was on a training mission from the Joint Base Andrews located in Prince George's County, Maryland, two US officials said.
The plane went down about six miles (10 kilometers) south of National Harbor, Maryland, and crashed in an unpopulated area, the officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Prince George's County fire department spokesperson, reported a pilot parachuted out of the aircraft and was picked up by a military helicopter.
He said the pilot was found in the same general area as the plane.
Homes in the area are being evacuated.
No casualties have been reported.
