Trump says one thing and does another: Political analyst

Mark Glenn

US President Donald Trump has been “unpredictable” in his attitudes during his presidential campaign and still after two months of being at the helm of the White House, therefore on numerous occasions what he says is different from what he does, says Mark Glenn, an American author and political analyst.

Glenn made the comments in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday after reports emerged that Trump's administration had pledged to show "great strictness" over the deal between Iran and the world's major powers.

The new US president, who has time and again called the agreement between Iran and the P5+1 countries "the worst deal ever negotiated," made no elaboration on the content of measures he might take against Tehran.

“If it is one thing where Donald Trump has been absolutely predictable both during his campaign and now almost two months into his presidency, it’s been his utter unpredictability,” Glenn said.

“People should not render their opinions and analyses of Trump too quickly because he has proven on occasions too numerous to count that he says one thing and then does another,” the American author and political analyst noted.

Pointing to Trump’s unpredictability in his attitudes, Glenn said he believes the billionaire businessman is “constantly weaving between the right and the left, back and forth,” arguing that “he does this as a maneuver to keep his opponents guessing about who he is and what he intends to do.”

Trump has been sharply critical of the 2015 agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and during his election campaign, he had promised to either “tear up” the accord or renegotiate its terms if elected president.

Iran and the P5+1 group -- the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, namely the US, France, Britain, Russia and China, plus Germany -- started implementation of the JCPOA on January 16, 2016.

The deal, which was later approved in a resolution by the UN Security Council, lifted sanctions imposed on Iran, which, in turn, put some limits on its nuclear program.

Since the implementation of the JCPOA, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed Iran’s compliance with its obligations under the nuclear agreement in several reports. In a joint statement last month, the European Union and the IAEA reaffirmed their support for the nuclear agreement.
