Some of the first batches of fungus that led to the discovery of antibiotic penicillin has been sold in an auction in London.
Small, patchy disc of mold that was first created by Scottish scientist, Alexander Fleming, was sold for over 14,000 dollars.
The 90-year-old swatch of mold is kept in a round glass case and features a caption by Fleming on the back, labeling it as "the mold that first made penicillin".
Experts believe Fleming probably made at least dozens of such mold mementos, derived from his original sample of the fungus.
