The NHL-leading Washington Capitals have eased past the New York Rangers 4-1 at the Madison Square Garden.
It was the Rangers who went ahead 1-0, five minutes into the opening period. Marcus Johansson then netted the puck for the hosts to tie the game at 1-1.
Washington took the lead when Brett Connolly scored towards the end of the second period. Johansson then made it 3-1 early in the third.
And finally, Nicklas Backstrom scored a power-play goal to make it 4-1 and give head coach Barry Trotz his 700th career victory.
