NHL: Canadiens edge past Rangers 3-2

The Montreal Canadiens have edged past the New York Rangers 3-2 in the NHL.

The Canadiens faced the Rangers on Tuesday night at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Andrew Shaw scored first to put the visitors on top 1-0, four minutes into the opening period.

Oscar Lindberg chipped home to pull the Rangers even at 1-all midway through the period. Shea Weber scored a power play goal to give the Canadiens an early lead in the second period.

Rick Nash then netted a goal for the hosts to tie the match 2-2 at the end of the third frame and overtime. The game then went to a shootout where Paul Byron scored in the 5th round to lift Montreal to a 3-2 win over New York.
