Cuba has paid homage to late Colombian literary legend Gabriel Garcia Marquez with a bronze statue.

A full-size sculpture of the Nobel-prize laureate was unveiled during a ceremony attended by Colombian and Cuban officials in the city of Havana.

The statue is intended to pay tribute to Marquez and show the Cuban people’s support for Colombia’s reconciliation process and peace accord with FARC rebels.

The metallic artwork, which is created by Cuban sculpture Jose Villa Soberon, depicts the writer carrying books and a rose.

Gabo’s bronze portrayal also shows him wearing the traditional Latin suit he wore to receive the Literature Nobel Prize in 1982.

Marquez, who died 3 years ago, lived in Havana for a while. He also had a close albeit complicated friendship with deceased Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
