The 2017 Wrestling World Cup has finally ended with hosts Iran claiming the title after putting on a flawless performance to demolish team USA 5-3 in the western city of Kermanshah.

Earlier in the day, Team Iran beat Mongolia to set up a final showdown with Team USA.

The Persians started the match with full force and went ahead 3-nothing. In the 57-and 61- kilogram categories Hassan Rahimi and Masoud Esmailpour defeated their American rivals 6-nothing and 6-2 respectively to put the Islamic Republic in a comfortable position.

Meisam Nasiri then fought hard to beat Frank Molinaro as he came back from 4-nothing down to win the 65 KG category event 5-4. The Iranian athletes continued their dominant performance in the competition as Mostafa Hosseinkhani beat James Green 2-nothing in the 70kg category to give Iran a commanding 4-zero lead.

The Americans, however, came back and took the 74, 86 and 97 kg categories through Jordan Burroughs, David Taylor and Kyle Snyder. But the Iranians didn’t back down and the big man Komeil Ghasemi clinched the precious title for Iran by humiliating Nick Gwiazdowski 5-nothing in the 125 Kg Category.

That’s while Azerbaijan and Turkey finished in 3rd and 4th places respectively.
