Freestyle Wrestling World Cup 2017: Iran beat Turkey 8-0

The 2017 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup which is being held in the western Iranian city of Kermanshah with hosts Iran finishing the first day of the event on top of Pool B following 2 commanding victories against Turkey and India.

The Iranians faced Turkey in their opening match on Thursday morning. Hassan Rahimi got the hosts’ campaign off to a winning start in the 57kg weight category as he defeated Sezar Akgul 6-0.

The unstoppable Iranian wrestlers, including Rio Olympics gold medalist Hassan Yazdani, proved too strong for their Turkish opposition and posted back-to-back victories to seal an 8-0 victory.


The second Pool B match, pitted Iran against India which proved to be another easy affair for the hosts. This time Younes Sarmasti got the Iranians going after earning a win by forfeit.

Iranian freestyle wrestler Komeil Ghasemi

Masoud Esmaeilpour, Meisam Nasiri, Mostafa Hosseinkhani, Bahman Teymoori, Alireza Karimi, Hossein Shahbazi and Komeil Ghasemi made sure that their side completed another clean sweep against India.

They will next face Mongolia on Friday morning in their last group stage encounter.
