Officials in Washington D.C. have announced the Giant panda Bao Bao will leave the National Zoo next week and will be transferred to China under a breeding agreement.

China had loaned Bao Bao’s parents to the US in 2000. Back then it was decided that their cub would return to China at the age of 4.

The youngest female panda at the Washington zoo will join others at a breeding facility in China. One keeper and one veterinarian will accompany her in her new home.

Bao Bao will be provided with her favorite treats, including bamboo, apples, cooked sweet potatoes and water during the journey.
