Taiwan ends new year revelries with Lantern Festival

Taiwan's Lantern Festival.

Hundreds of people have sent New Year wishes to the sky on flying lanterns in Taiwan as Lunar New Year festivities conclude.

After more than 2 weeks of Lunar New Year celebrations, thousands of shimmering lanterns were released to wrap up the festivities at New Taipei City with a magical glow.

Much like any other year, most of the festival’s sky lanterns were scribbled with revelers’ prayers and vows for the new year, raising hope and desire with their liftoff.

This year, some 20 paper lamps were dedicated to portraying images of tourist hotspots in Japan and Taiwan.

The show was accompanied with folk performances, music, carnivals and lantern riddle contests.
