Thailand observes Buddhist 'Makha Bucha' holiday

Monks at Makha Bucha holiday in Bangkok, Thailand.

Buddhist monks and devotees in Thailand have gathered in a temple to immerse themselves in a purification holiday.

The annually-held Magha Puja festival was observed in an immense Buddhist temple located in Thailand’s Pathum Thani Province.

The ceremony started at dawn with outdoor meditation sessions accompanied by hymns and prayers intended to purify the mind.

After nightfall, people renewed their promise of avoiding sin and foul as they marched inside the temple with alms offerings holding candles and torches.

The spiritual holiday falls on the full moon night of the 3rd lunar month and commemorates the day when more than 1,200 monks were ordained by Buddha.
