Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had nothing to do with 9/11: Scholar

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was captured and, according to American scholar Dr. Kevin Barrett, tortured by FBI and CIA agents into falsely confessing that he was the mastermind behind 9/11, even though he had nothing to do with it.

Dr. Barrett, the author of Truth Jihad: My Epic Struggle Against the 9/11 Big Lie, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday, after a letter from Khalid Sheikh to former US President Barack Obama surfaced.  

The letter, dated January 8, 2015, was addressed to "the head of the snake, Barack Obama."  But the letter reached the White House in the last days of Obama's presidency, about two years after it was written, following a military judge ordered the Guantanamo Bay prison authorities to deliver it to the president, reports said.

‘American hawks killed 55 million people’

“Today it was reported that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged 9/11 mastermind, has claimed that 9/11 was the result of hawkish US foreign policy and the countless deaths it has caused,” said Dr. Barrett, who has been studying the September 11, 2001 attacks since late 2003.

“In fact, that’s actually true. But what he didn’t say was that the American hawks who have murdered 55 million people all over the world in military and CIA interventions since World War 2, according to [Noam] Chomsky and [André] Vltchek’s book, On Western Terrorism, are exactly the same people that murdered 3000 Americans, and people from around the world, on September 11, 2001,” he stated.

“Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had nothing to do with 9/11 other than being captured and tortured into a false confession,” the analyst asserted.  

‘Khalid Sheikh was tortured for two months nonstop’

“He not only confessed to being the 9/11 mastermind, as they read him a script that he had to OK while he was being tortured for two months basically nonstop, but he also confessed a long list of other crimes that he possibly couldn’t have committed, including crimes that happened after he had already been captured,” Dr. Barrett said.

“He might as well have confessed to the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, the JFK assassination and a long list of other unsolved crimes,” the scholar said.

“So this is very ironic though that the statement which has been put out by the Western media now in support of the blowback theory of 9/11, that is the theory that 9/11 was in fact done by these 19 Arabs with box cutters -- a ludicrous fairytale to say the least -- but this blowback theory claims that it in fact was the result of American intervention around the world that got people angry at America and that’s what led to this supposed foreign terrorist attack,” he pointed out.   

The September 11 attacks, also known as the 9/11 attacks, were a series of strikes in the US which killed nearly 3,000 people and caused about $10 billion worth of property and infrastructure damage.

US officials assert that the attacks were carried out by al-Qaeda terrorists but many experts have raised questions about the official account. They believe that rogue elements within the US government orchestrated the 9/11 attacks in order to accelerate the US war machine and advance the Zionist agenda.

‘US propaganda machine managed to blind the world’

“Now it’s true that people all over the world are angry at America for very good reasons.  In fact, they should be vastly more angry than they are. The American propaganda machine has unfortunately managed to blind much of the world to the egregiousness of American crimes all over the world that have been committed in pursuit of this corporate empire that has essentially taken over much of the world, and looted its resources post-World War II,” Dr. Barrett said.

“So it is true that there is this groundswell of anger against the United States. However, actual people who would fight against the empire are not interested in creating provocations like 9/11 which simply caused the empire to go and behave even worse and kill even more people,” he said.

“Obviously, 9/11 was the worst thing that has ever happened to real Muslim anti-imperialists who are struggling against the American empire. And none of them wanted it to happen,” he stated.

“Strategically, it would make no sense for any radical, anti-US empire Muslim or anyone else to blow up the Twin Towers and Building 7, and create a spectacular publicity stunt that enabled the empire to double its military budget, and charge into the Middle East and destroy numerous Middle Eastern countries on behalf of expansionist Israel,” concluded Dr. Barrett, a founding member of the Scientific Panel for the Investigation of 9/11.
