The majority of Americans are unhappy with Donald Trump’s performance as president with less than a month in the White House, a new poll shows, positing a new low in his popularity.

According to a Gallup tracking poll released Wednesday, 53 percent of Americans disapproved of the former reality TV star’s handling of the government, while only 42 percent approved.

Two days after Trump assumed office on January 20, his ratings were 45-45 percent.

The 12-point gap between his approval and disapproval ratings is also unprecedented.

Trump’s grip on power marked the lowest level of popularity a US president has enjoyed in modern history.

Gallup, which has been tracking the US commander-in-chiefs’ performance since former President Dwight D Eisenhower, tracks the job approval based on daily telephone interviews.

Meanwhile, a Morning Consult/Politico poll showed that Trump’s favorability is plummeting.

Forty-nine percent of voters approve of Trump’s job performance, down from 49 percent in the same poll a week earlier.

His disapproval rating also rose to 46 percent from 41 percent.

Meanwhile, Trump’s Muslim ban was becoming more popular across the country, according to the same poll.

The travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries is approved or strongly approved by 55 percent.

The figure encompassed 54 percent of independents and 82 percent of Republicans, while 65 percent of Democrats said they opposed it.

As 82 percent of the Republicans think Democrats in Congress should find a way to work with the president, only 34 percent of Democrats think they should.

Fifty-six percent of Democrats believe that their representatives should stick to liberal principles “even if that means blocking all legislation or nominees for government posts.”
