Russia unveils world’s first ice library

People's wishes have been inscribed on the ice in their original languages, including English, Chinese and Korean.

Russia has unveiled the world’s first ice library on the shores of Lake Baikal in southern Siberia.

The ‘Ice Library of Wonders’ is a 200-ton ice sculpture. The walls of the structure are formed of ice blocks, each block symbolizing an open book in the library.

The blocks, or books, have been inscribed with people’s dreams. So far, some 1,000 dreams have been carved into the ice in various languages.

The Ice Library will stand until spring when it will melt. Russia has announced that the ice library will be added to its calendar as an annual festival.
