Trump must stop aggressive posture toward Iran: Commentator

US Defense Secretary James Mattis has repeated accusations that Iran is a "state sponsor of terrorism,” just as President Donald Trump imposed new sanctions against Tehran over its missile defense program. However, he said, Washington had no plans to increase troop numbers in the Middle East in response.

A political commentator in Brisbane believes if Trump is serious about fighting terrorism, he needs to work with Iran rather than adopting an aggressive posture toward it because the Islamic Republic has been fighting the Daesh Takfiri terrorists in the Middle East.

“The United States needs to realize that it is the Islamic nations and Muslim nations that have been subject to far more terrorism than Western nations as a result of what is going on in the Middle East and where all the funding for all this terrorism is coming from which is provably coming from Western sources,” Max Igan told Press TV in an interview on Saturday.

He also opined that there is no problem with Iran testing its defensive capabilities, adding that no law prohibits a nation from being able to defend itself.

The commentator further predicted that Trump is not going to honor the nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and impose new sanctions on Iran.

However, he said, Trump needs to be more “realistic”, arguing that what he is doing is “very dangerous”.

Igan further noted there has been a big effort to paint Muslims as “a threat” and the only thing that is going to change it is “public pressure, public outcry and public stance against what Trump is attempting to do”.

He also asserted that if a Muslim nation is going to be blamed for terrorism, that should be Saudi Arabia which was responsible for providing the hijackers that apparently carried out the 9/11 attacks but instead has a “revolving door” to get into the United States.

According to the commentator, Trump is going to escalate the war of conquest and imperialism which the United States has been involved in for many years, rather than trying to stop it.
